Fix camera issues
If permission is blocked
1) Check browser permission
Look for the camera icon in the address bar and set Camera access to Allow. Refresh the page and click Start again.
2) Close other apps using the camera
Quit Zoom/Teams/Meet/OBS and any tab using the camera. Only one app can access some webcams at a time.
3) Try another browser
If you’re on Safari, try Chrome/Edge. If you’re on Chrome, try Edge. This isolates browser-specific issues.
If quality looks bad
1) Improve lighting
Face a window or light source. Avoid backlight behind you. Lighting is the biggest driver of webcam clarity.
2) Increase target resolution
Select 1280×720 or 1920×1080 if available. Some webcams default to low resolution until requested.
3) Disable “beauty” filters or low-power mode
Filters and battery-saving modes can reduce FPS and sharpness. Try plugging in power and turning filters off.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does CameraTest.app upload my camera feed?
No. This mockup assumes everything stays in your browser unless you download a file locally.
Why is my webcam black / not showing?
Most commonly: permission blocked, camera in use by another app, or OS privacy settings.
How do I switch between front and back camera on mobile?
Use the Camera dropdown. On mobile, devices often appear as “front” / “back” or similar labels.
What FPS is good enough?
For calls: 24–30 FPS feels smooth. If it’s below ~15 FPS, improve lighting or reduce background apps.
Privacy
All testing happens on your device
Your camera stream does not leave your browser. If you capture a photo or record a clip, it is created locally and only downloads to your device when you choose.
